Diocesan World Youth Day Celebration 2022 – November 13 to 19, 2022
Focusing on this year’s theme “Mary arose and went with haste” from Luke 1:39 and Pope Francis’ message for the 37th WYD, check out the many ways our young people can get involved and be part of this year’s celebration of Diocesan World Youth Day!
What is Diocesan World Youth Day?
Every year, the Church is called to reflect upon and celebrate youth and young adults! Diocesan World Youth Day is the global celebration of young people that takes place annually on the Solemnity of Christ the King, which this year will be on Sunday, November 20, 2022 in every diocese and community around the world, including at the Vatican with the Holy Father. Every 2-3 years it is celebrated internationally on a bigger scale typically during the summer months. The next one of these will take place from Tuesday to Sunday, August 1- 6 2023, in Lisbon, Portugal with millions of people and the Holy Father which will give a chance for pilgrims around the world to come together with young people from every continent to pray, worship and celebrate the Catholic Faith.
A Celebration in the dioceses of St. Boniface and Winnipeg
Since some young people cannot participate in the international celebrations due to studies, work and financial restraints, the local celebration of WYD brings the opportunity to experience a festival of faith that includes witnessing, communion, and prayer similar to the international experience. Local celebrations further raise awareness among the whole community – laity, priests, consecrated persons, families, adults, the elderly – of their responsibility to transmit the faith to young persons, to be challenged by their questions, and to be mindful of walking with young people, welcoming them and listening to them.
We are also looking for volunteers for our celebration! We invite those who are interested in learning more about how they can be part of our team at our volunteer’s information night on September 29th 6:00pm at the Archdiocese of Winnipeg Catholic Centre (1495 Pembina Hwy in Winnipeg).
